My Biography

Nursing is one of the most noble professions one can pursue and I feel proud of being a part of the nursing community everyday. Throughout my nursing career, I got an opportunity to perform various nursing roles such as Staff Nurse, Case Manager, Senior Nurse Manager in many prestigious Hospitals or organizations. In each role, I learnt something new and was able to contribute something towards nursing and direct patient care. I had experiences of knowing various nursing theories, policies, protocols and guidelines. I tried utilizing them in my daily practice. While giving patient care,or providing education to front line staff, all have inspired me to seek a specialization as a Nurse Educator.

During my Bachelors of Nursing from Christian Medical College, I got the opportunity to work as a Telemetry nurse in the Acute Care setting as well as a clinical instructor in the Cardiology Unit. My responsibilities included direct care to the chronic, complex and acute patients. Along with that I also got a chance to teach nursing students who were responsible to provide patient care.

While working in the Acute Care Hospital, I found myself more empathetic in providing high quality elderly care. I personally feel that elderly population needs better awareness regarding preventive care while also attending to their medical needs. This motivated me to pursue further studies in Hospice Palliative Care and Gerontology, Post grad specialization program at Grant MacEwan University, Alberta, Canada. Here I got accustomed to the process of making right nursing decisions and also learnt about morals, ethics and older adult health status values. Most importantly, I understood the need of early assessment and interventions to prevent patients from chronic illness such as diabetes, hypertension, COPD etc.

In 2016 ,I cleared the NCLEX exam to practice nursing in the United States. My first job in the states was a Nursing Supervisor in a Skilled Nursing facility at Sunnyvale Post Acute Center. I was promoted to Assistant Director of Nursing there and then joined Acute Care Hospital (Kaiser Permanente, Santa Clara) as a RN Case Manager and then recently being promoted to RM Manager within the same department at Kaiser. In my present job, I work with infants, adults and older patients, where my major responsibility is to mentor the staff in  utilization review, coordination, and do safe discharge planning and prevent readmissions of the patients in the hospital. I enjoy educating myself and other healthcare professionals in order to bring improvement in patient care and outcomes. This pushes me to pursue specialization in the Nurse Educator degree program, which will enhance my knowledge in training nursing professionals, educating and helping patients and their family members regarding health care needs.

Professional Goals

My professional goal is to educate myself on effective, evidence-based interventions as well as avail knowledge in new ongoing advancing health care practices so that we can bring better outcomes in health care practice. I believe that nursing staff should be updated with new advancement in healthcare technology on a routine basis.
